Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are materials possessing the mechanical properties of elastomers, but with the ability to be processed like conventional thermoplastics. Their particular microstructure gives them a soluble and meltable character, unlike conventional rubbers. They are used in particular when traditional thermoplastics cannot meet certain requirements of the specifications or as additives when the objective is to improve the impact resistance of conventional thermoplastics.
The last decades have highlighted the importance of sustainable development. In this context, the use of renewable and biodegradable resources appears as an evidence.

The objective of the project is to develop new polymeric structures entirely composed of "molecular bricks" from biomass, including itaconic acid, to make new thermoplastic elastomers completely biosourced. For this purpose, it will be necessary to synthesize monomers according to a photoredox process with visible light before engaging them in a polymerization step. A particular attention will be paid to the relations structures / properties of the formed TPE.
